Sport Karate Coalition Triumphs at the WKA European Championships 2025 in Warsaw

Ożarów Mazowiecki, May 16–18, 2025 – In the impressive Arena Ożarów sports hall near Warsaw, Poland proudly hosted one of the most prestigious martial arts events of the year – the WKA European Championships. National teams from across Europe came together to compete at the highest level, and among them was our team – Sport Karate Coalition (SKC) – which returned home with an extraordinary haul of 44 medals, including 19 golds.
Day 1 – Arrival, Registration & Technical Briefing

Our journey began on Thursday, as the SKC team arrived in Warsaw ahead of the competition. After settling into the comfortable Mazurkas Hotel, we completed the technical briefing – including document verification, weigh-ins, and badge collection. The evening was spent bonding as a team with a walk, dinner at a local pizzeria, and some well-deserved rest before the competition began.
Day 2 – Veterans and Seniors Set the Standard

Friday was dedicated to the veterans and senior categories, and our experienced fighters delivered a phenomenal performance. Out of just five SKC representatives competing that day, we earned an astonishing 18 medals, including 13 gold.

Gold Seniors Ippon Kumite, Gold Veterans Sanbon Kumite, Veterans Kata (silver)
	•	Team Events: 4 x Gold in Team Kumite, Gold Team Kata Veterans, Gold Pairs Kata Veterans.
   
Adam Zietalewicz 2 x Gold, 2 x Silver, 1 x Bronze
	•	Individual: Veterans +40 Ippon (Gold), Shobu Ippon (Silver)
	•	Team: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze

Anna Piotrowska 3 x Gold, 1 x Silver
	•	Individual: Shobu Ippon Female +40 (Silver)
	•	Team Kumite: 3 x Gold

Michel Niski 2 x Silver, 2 x Bronze
	•	Individual: Veterans +51 Sanbon Kumite (Bronze)
	•	Team Kumite: 2 x Silver, 1 x Bronze

Aneta Grzeszczak 1 x Gold, 3 x Silver
	•	Individual: Veterans +40 Sanbon Kumite (Gold)
	•	Team Kumite: 3 x Silver

A special highlight of the day was the presentation of the Bronze Badge “For Contribution to Sport” by the Polish Ministry of Sport and Tourism, awarded personally by Minister Sławomir Nitras and Senator Beata Małecka-Libera. Honorees included:

• Krzysztof Chałupka
• Roman Szymczak
This prestigious recognition highlighted years of dedication to the development of sport in Poland.


Day 3 – Young Talents Shine Bright

Saturday was all about the youngest athletes, and emotions ran high as our child competitors faced fierce international competition. The day brought smiles, tears, and valuable lessons – and our youth squad did not disappoint.

• Julia B – 1 x Gold (Kumite), 1 x Silver (Kata – 9 yrs)
• Theo N – 2 x Gold (Kumite & Kata – 9 yrs) 1 x Bronze (Pairs Kata – 11 yrs)
• Tymoteusz W – 1 x Bronze (Kumite – 7 yrs), 1 x Silver (Kata – 11 yrs)
• Anthony W – 3 x Bronze (Kata & Kumite & Pairs Kata – 11 yrs)
• Fabian S – 1 x Silver (Kata – 10 yrs)
• Alexander C – 1 x Silver (Kata – 7–8 yrs).
Day 4 – Junior Power: Cadets & Teens Make a Statement
Sunday closed the championships with cadets and juniors. Our teenage female fighters delivered a clean sweep of gold and silver medals, proving SKC’s strength across all age categories.

• Nikola W – Kumite Sanbon 14–15 yrs, 65–75 kg
• Alicja Z – Kumite Ippon, Open Weight
• Maja W, Nikola W, Alicja Z – 2 x Gold (Team Kumite Ippon & Sanbon)

Silver & Bronze Medalists:
• Cleopatra S – Silver (Sanbon Kumite), 2 x Silver (Team Kumite) 
• Jagoda W – Silver (Ippon Kumite),2 x Silver (Team Kumite)
• Maja, Nikola, Alicja – Bronze (Team Kata, Open Age)
• Maja, Nikola, Jagoda – Bronze (Team Rotation)
After the final awards ceremony, it was straight to the airport and homeward bound – carrying medals, memories, and new lessons.

• Silver: 17
• Bronze: 8

More Than Medals
This championship was more than a contest of strength and skill – it was a journey of growth, unity, and perseverance. Every athlete, coach, and supporter contributed to this achievement.

At SKC, we measure success not just by medals, but by the experience gained, the friendships forged, and the lives changed. The WKA European Championships 2025 will be remembered not only for podium finishes but for moments that shaped us as athletes and as people.

We return stronger, prouder, and inspired for what lies ahead.

The competition was a great success congratulations to all competitors. A very big thank you to all the Senseis and parents who organised this event and ensured it moved smoothly. I certainly learnt a lot from this competition and plan to apply this knowledge to future championships. 🙌
